As most people adjust into the summer months by sleeping in and lounging all day watching TV, Meghan and I have already hit the ground running. Literally.
Spent a nice morning running around La Canada, got “acquainted” with the dogs we will be house-sitting later this summer (it was crucial to have a meet and greet), and then headed off to my first NBC Intern event. Because I haven’t announced it before, I will take the time to do so now.
This summer I have the wonderful opportunity to work at NBC Universal in the Telemundo Ad Sales department. I am very excited to work there and even more excited to mingle with some of the other interns. It took me a good month or so to actually tie down the internship, but I think it will truly be a great experience. I’ll touch upon it more when I actually begin working.
For the past few summers, I have interned at Hulu and Eyewonder, but have felt strangely out of pace, either due to the fact I was much younger than the rest of the employees and had no way to relate to them, or wasn’t really included. This summer, I have already received countless emails and offers to attend socials, basketball games, and more. Best part is, it’s all for free! There sure are benefits to being an intern at a top-name company. Today’s event was a little ice cream and shaved ice social put on by “Get Shaved.” It was the legitimate shaved ice with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the bottom and fine ice flakes toped with your choice of flavors.
I was actually able to meet quite a few awesome individuals, many of whom I hope to hang out with outside of work. I even met a fellow Theta who goes to Cal Poly SLO and was helping out at Wildflower (the triathlon race) and was actually positioned in the same place my bike was parked!
To make my first day of summer even grander, I met up with my high school girl friends for dinner at the local Mexican hot spot, Los Gringos Locos. I personally never really ate here, but for the rest of the town, it is the place to go, whether it is Margarita Monday, Taco Tuesday, or any other day of the week for that matter.
I chose the veggie fajitas which came with guacamole, sour cream, rice, beans, pico de gallo, a heaping skillet of veggies and your choice of tortillas. Well worth the price and certainly filled me up!
Now, I doubt each day will be as jam-packed as this, but I’ll try to milk it as long as I can. Off to see Rock of Ages with the family!
“What a beautiful, sunny morning. It makes you happy to be alive, doesn’t it? We can’t let the sun outshine us! We have to beam, too!”
