This past week has certainly flown by and I’m not just saying that because it’s already October, that I am on the quarter system, that I have spent all my time (or none of my time) socializing, or that I spent all weekend with Greek Recruitment (what you may know as “Rush”). Wait, maybe it is?
Luckily I didn’t have rush practice on Friday, so we started the weekend up at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley. I factored in almost two hours driving time, even though Google maps says it takes 45 minutes. So glad I did because we used it all going through stop and go traffic. Not as bad given my experience with LA traffic.
I am not much of a beer drinker, but hey, I’m 21 and at a concert, why not? As for food, I went for the tofu/rice bowl (which wasn’t half bad, probably because it was Berkeley), Meghan & Louise went for the hummus plate, and Liz selected a hot dog.
Now onto the weekend. I acted as a recruitment counselor (although none of my girls really needed counseling) for the past four or so days as the four sororities (Alpha Phi, Kappa Alpha Theta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and Delta Gamma) host little parties, play dress-up, and welcome in new potential members.
I could totally have guessed which house each girl in my group would go to and I was totally right! We walked the girls from house to house and then sat outside while the sororities sang their songs and played perfect little hosts. I absolutely loved the experience because I could actually get to know each potential new member without them trying to impress me.
So my eating wasn’t exactly spooky or highly-pumpkin oriented (except the delicious healthy pumpkin cookies I made), but it was slightly scary at times.
My lunches and dinners weren’t always that bad. A veggie quesadilla (mistake…) from Henry’s by school, hodge-podge of veggies and tofu salad from our cafeteria, and a grilled veggie mix made by yours truly.
We seriously spent all weekend walking around so there was very little opportunity to eat actual meals. Instead, we resorted to snacking, always great for the metabolism. Well, not really considering what we were snacking on 😉 Costco Greek Yogurt Trail Mix, Celery, Watermelon, Grapes, Cheese, Cupcakes, Ice Cream Bars, coffee (too much coffee) Bundt Cake (a celebration gift from our R.C. leader), or frozen yogurt for dinner. When I don’t get enough sleep, I tend to reach for whatever is in front of me.
Best part of the night? My friend, Louise became a THETA! To say I am excited is an understatement.
They always say how some of your sorority sisters will be in your wedding. I can be so cynical about life and don’t always believe things like this. I wasn’t sure I would make genuine enough friendships to last a lifetime or feel connected to my sisters. But, you know, after tonight, I think joining Theta was a solid decision. I’m positive that everything happens for a reason, it just takes some time to figure it out.
