Just another day in the life. Rounding the week off with some of my favorites. We are less than two weeks away from Thanksgiving, about 6 weeks from Christmas, and I’d say things have been going pretty darn well.
Family – The madre is in town and it’s time to shop till we drop! Don’t worry dad, we won’t be that bad, but I’m in desperate need of a winter coat and some decent work tops for my new job. It’s become somewhat of an annual (every other year?) event where my mom visits me in some different location in the world or country. A couple years ago around this time, I was studying in Barcelona and she was able to visit and travel to Madrid!
So far we have seen all the classic sites – DSW, Burlington Coat Factory, Whole Foods. Just kidding. Actually not really. She didn’t arrive until last night and so we make a quick trip to those locations as well as Union Square, The Strand Bookstore, and the original NY Trader Joe’s. I wanted to show her what a mess the TJ’s can be, but I guess at 8:45pm, it’s not too bad. Good to know for the future. We ended up picking up a few essentials and striking up a conversation with the cashier. All in a day’s work for the Fuelling’s.
Casual Fridays – My last job/internship was pretty casual all the time, so I think Fridays here will have a little more significance. In the end it doesn’t matter too much because I tend to dress pretty JCrew/East Coast Prep most of the time, or at least I think I do.
Bagel Fridays – Our section of the office receives bagels on Fridays, so that will certainly become yet another reason to celebrate the end of the work week, the beginning of the weekend, and my new job. New Yorkers are funny about their bagels. Before I moved, I really had no idea what the big deal was and simply was not a bagel person. Apparently it’s a no-no to toast the bagels, at least at Ess-A Bagel (the BEST bagel in town) and they have a strange obsession with cream cheese + lox. I’m much more of a plain cream cheese gal, but can deal with the no-toasting thing.
Growing up I would always have my particular order. First, it was an egg bagel + butter, then blueberry bagel + peanut butter, and now a whole grain bagel + cream cheese. I don’t always find them super filling or sustaining, which is why one day after cross country practice, I inhaled a blueberry + PB as well as a chocolate-chocolate with cream cheese. Oh dear lord. High school metabolism.
My Work – The craziness of work hasn’t set in just yet, but I do love it so far. The brand name, the people, the atmosphere. It’s the sort of group environment I’ve been craving ever since I graduated high school and left my cross-country team behind. It’s the work I knew I wanted to be doing at this point in my career (however mundane it might get at times) and it’s the perfect stepping ground for the future. I truly am blessed to have friends and family who supported me thus far and encouraged me to hold out for something grand.
Holiday Cups from Starbucks – Materialistic or capitalistic or consumerist(ic?), whatever you may call it, it’s the little things in life that bring happiness. Somehow Starbucks has brought the magic of the holidays to the world with its red holiday cups and drinks. I tried my first gingerbread latte today and honestly was less than impressed. Maybe it’s because I don’t like ginger. Go figure.
However, I am more than in love with the peppermint mochas, because who doesn’t love chocolate? 😉 Also, if anyone is up for a great deal, Starbucks has its last buy 1 get 1 free special TODAY 2-5pm. Pick out a buddy and treat yourself. Even better, pick out a stranger or someone else in line. You may just make their day.
What are some of your favorites?
