Life is a Dream

Well hump day is over and here we are on a fabulous “Thinking Out Loud” Thursday morning (midday, afternoon, evening…or whenever you happen to stop by).  I adore joining in these weekly parties every so often just to “e-meet” up with some fabulous new faces and personalities.  Plus I had some fun putting together this week’s edition of Thinking Out Loud and so here we go.

  • My sparkling water addiction may be worse and more costly than my coffee habit. True, I could invest in a bubble maker (otherwise known as a SodaStream) or infuse lemon slices in my water or simply suck it up and deal with plain water.  But it’s not harmful to my health, doesn’t make me poor (yet), and makes me happy.
  • When should I publish my posts?  There’s the whole “social media” time zone between 3 and 5 when people are obviously oh so productive at work (but really…that whole post lunch “2:30” feeling)  But then if you post in the morning, you catch all the productive peeps who get up and read blogs and emails before they start their day or on their way to work.  Blogger problems.

  • When in Brooklyn ~ Apparently the hipster population makes their own rules.  Totally fine, just plop down a field of grass in the middle of the street and it’s like you are in the great outdoors.
  • With so many people in the city and so many things to do, I’m rarely lonely or homesick.  Sure everyone encounters the occasional bout of loneliness but I definitely think I’m happier here than I was ever in college.  Not that I don’t miss my family or that time in my life, but I feel so much more confident and this is an opportunity in my life to explore the unknown and do what I want and when I want.  I’m blessed to have such a supportive family and it helps that we are all in different places in our lives.  Many are surprised to hear that my parents were absolutely pushing for me to move to New York and explore a new part of the world, but it’s true and I love them for it.

  • How can you pass up an opportunity to see free concerts in the park?  Pass by the iconic Shake Shack or just view all the craziness on a daily basis?  There’s always something to ponder and I feel that this city keeps me on my toes.  You could say New York is my ongoing education…of life.  Corny but true.

  • One of the many moments where I realize I live in one of the greatest cities.  I like to think that I thrive in the constantly moving city and am in awe of all the activities and opportunities that are held here on this island.  I was stretching at the gym last week and happened to see an Instagram post announcing Train’s visit to the Today Show.  Now I could either go to the gym Friday morning or go to the Today Show.  Not even a question!  Off to Rockefeller Plaza I went!
  • They are coming out with a new album, Angel In Blue Jeans, which I am very excited about.  Of course I’m still partial to their California 37 and Save Me San Francisco albums.

  • For those who know me well, you know that I adore Train.  It’s a band I grew up singing without really realizing it.  When I put two and two together, I was hooked.  I soon saw them in concert up at Berkley and later in Irvine.  So pair that bit of knowledge with the fact that I’ve always been obsessed with the Today Show and have dreamt of being a part of that fabulous cast, so it was a dream come true Friday.

Do you have a favorite band?  What’s your dream job?

  1. Sparkling water is the best! I used to drink so much of the cheap stuff from Wal Mart – its so delicious! Going to the Today show must have been so fun! I’ve always wanted to go to one of those concerts.
My love so many bands, but I’d have to say my favorite is Marianas Trench. I saw them last summer and they were amazing!

    • Isn’t it though? I figure the little things in life are sometimes the best 🙂 I’ve never heard of that band! But then again I like to say I live under a rock so it’s not a surprise.

  2. I totally passed that street fair this week! Did you get the free sample of lavender ice cream? Are you moving to the city for good or just the summer? Either way I’m totally jealous. I interned at an office right near flatiron. Glad to see you’re soaking in so much awesomeness 🙂

    • I didn’t but will have to keep an eye out for that next time! I’ve been living in the city since September so I’ll definitely be around a bit longer 🙂 Love the Flatiron!

  3. I love sparkling water! I usually schedule my posts for 5 am central time. Occasionally I will post in the afternoon, but I do think its a great idea to post to instagram or twitter that you have a new post up at different times of the day. If you really want to grow your readers that is!

  4. Oh man, how cool that you got to go to one of the Today show concerts! I’ve loved the Today show for years and years, and when I was younger I used to watch all morning during the summer for their concerts. I would LOVE to go to the Today show someday if I ever make it to New York!

  5. Oh that’s awesome you went to see Train on the today show! I saw that they were coming that week and really wished I lived closer so I could go see them haha. I don’t know that I have a favorite band (although I love Of Monsters and Men), but I do have lots of favorite songs….which I love to sing loudly 😛

  6. I’m weird about carbonated water…. can’t stand it! For some reason over-carbonated things almost hurt me hahah. I live in a small suburb, so we don’t have any free concerts. SO JEALOUS. I can’t think of a more relaxing way to spend the day than sitting on some comfy grass and listening away.

  7. Awesome you got to see Train on the Today Show! How exciting! So, as a social media chicky, I’ve read all about posting times and honestly, when it comes to blogging, I post when I want to. We blog for fun, so I think some rules can be left out because the more authentic we are, the more success we glean, right? That being said, I might post a blog post on an off hour, but I’ll at least try to post it to social at a decent hour. You can actually see the times your followers are on if you have a Facebook page! Anyway, enough media ranting 🙂 (Oh, and I’m doing a dream job you could say- I’m in your home state doing social media for a drum corps!)

    • I think the whole point of blogging is to do what you want. Being different makes you unique and thus attractive to readers 🙂 I haven’t made the jump to an official facebook page for my blog but that’s a great point! Oh man girl I’m excited for you!!

  8. Dood. I used to be addicted to carbonated h20 from Target (of all places). I really love adding fresh fruit to it too when I’m feeling all Beyonce’ fancy (don’t forget a champagne glass). And I wish I could bask in the glory of live concerts with you in NY. Sigh, soon my friend, very soon. ❤

  9. I grew up with Train, since my daddy was obsessed with them. He used to crank up Meet Virginia and we’d dance around the house together to it 🙂
And that water sounds sooooo good!! I love sparkling water too, but just never buy it for some reason!! I add lots of lemons and oranges to my water, but sometimes you just need that fizz!

  10. you already know this, buuuut my dream job is being a sideline reporter in professional sports, preferably baseball. can’t wait for my dream to become a reality someday. ps- is it just me or has your life been amazingly awesome lately?! i feel like you’ve been doing so many cool things. glad you’re getting the most of NYC! miss you!

  11. I can definitely relate to the sparkling water addiction — I think mine (coupled with my coffee habit) is going to make me poor as well 😆 Oh well, it’s the small pleasures in life, right? And I always like posting in the morning and find that it’s the best time to interact with other people. But at the end of the day, you just gotta do what fits best with your schedule 🙂

  12. I also wondered about when to post my blog too! During the school year, I would always post it when I got up- between 5am-6am. Now that I am off for the summer, I still schedule it for 5:30am. What can I say, I like for it to be there right when people wake up in the morning!

  13. I am obsessed with la croix coconut. Sparkling water is just so refreshing!

And I also LOVE train. Ugh! such good songs that just reach my soul. ☺️ can’t wait to hear their new album!

  14. I love Train!! My all time favorite band is Queen, but I will basically listen to anything, especially indie stuff. Saying that makes me feel like a wannabe hipster haha!
I’ve always wondered when was the best time to post, but now I pretty much post whenever I have the time, regardless of the time of day!
