Schooooooool’s out for summer! Well maybe that doesn’t really work but today feels like one of those last days of school where you really aren’t doing anything at all but have to show up just because. Most of the agencies that we work with are closed today and I’m just catching up on emails from yesterday because our network decided to crash at 12pm. That’s right, from 12pm onward we did not receive many external emails. It’s safe to say there was a 2-4 hour delay in correspondence. Cool.
A very happy first day of July, happy Canada day eh, and 4th of July weekend! Two years ago I went down to the Jersey Shore, last year I was home sweet home in Mammoth Lakes, and here are some other favorite flashbacks from this patriotic holiday. Good times, good times.
This year I’m up to a hodge-podge of things – hiking tomorrow, swimming and maybe Smorgasburg on Sunday, and hopefully a picnic of sorts for the fireworks on Monday. I decided against any big trip this weekend since I only have a couple of weeks in the city and then I’m off to Alaska/home for three weeks. It’s going to feel so weird being away from New York for that long but I may luck out and miss most of the humidity.
I’m definitely going to miss my workout buddies but I’ll have a few running dates set up and might be able to swing a couple of NP_LAX workouts as well. Have tribe will travel, right?
^^ On the last Wednesday of every month, we meet at the Randall’s Island footbridge and run back and forth throughout the workout. We include some form of strength work like burpees or pushups but man those bridges wear you down. Starting on July 11th, we actually are going to be graced with Monday workouts, #bridgetheme. That means we will be rotating around the city running on a variety of bridges. The verdict is out on how much I can attend since I still need to work on strength and Monday is usually the day to do that. Of course I could do this thing called “switching things up”. Not a control freak at all.
^^ Benefit of bridge day = tagging. NEW GEAR! Tie-dye compliments to Meghan and Madre. Turquoise tank by Old Navy and the very best color to wear.
Wired.com ~ “Fitness Isn’t A Lifestyle Anymore. Sometimes It’s a Cult” ~ Cult meaning tribe in only the BEST sort of way. Hey hey, we all find what works for us. For me, it’s fitness and friends that I find via fitness. Also I really want to go to the SF and San Diego tribes because they just sound utterly amazing. And I hear they have gorgeous people there…
People.com ~ “8th Grader Roasts Presidential Candidates” ~ Oh my goodness. This kid is hilarious. YOU NEED TO WATCH. He has the impressions down and I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up on SNL during his lifetime.
Collective Evolution ~ “How Smartphone Light Affects Your Brain Body” ~ Well, maybe less caffeine and less technology before bed will help me sleep past 5:45…
Ironman ~ “My Finish Line Road” ~ Goals. Maybe impossible goals but goals all the same.
NY Mag ~ “Dad Takes Out Dating Ad for Adult Son” ~ Please dear family DO NOT DO THIS TO ME. Ok thanks.
Life Hacker ~ “How to Overcome Your Quarter-Life Crisis” ~ Definitely going to do a post on this one but it’s too good not to share now. Not saying that I’m having a “crisis” but too many “OMG YES” moments.
^^ Running with one of the best buddies. Wednesday was tough. Running today was tough. I could definitely use some swimming. But running together made it better for sure.
^^ Yoga in Bryant Park ~ Seems relaxing but was really more of organized chaos. I realized that I love working out in the morning and really do not enjoy it in the evening. It also didn’t help that the girl in front of me kept hitting me in the face with her foot. That and I had to use the bathroom. But yay for Bryant Park!
^^ This morning’s view en route to November Project in Washington Square Park. I’ve decided that the only way I will go to NP on Fridays is if I run or bike there. It just feels like more of a workout that way. Although, jogging with a backpack – even the Lulu Run Pack – is still semi-difficult.
^^ Ali and Laura Ann looking perfect as always. My face not so much. BUT we had the most patriotic of teams. Winning.
^^ Run to NP + NP workout + breakfast club = perfect start to a Friday. This wasn’t nearly as tasty as my breakfast sandwich from Tilda All Day but it did the trick. Now it’s back to “work” before starting a lovely three day weekend!
What are you up to this weekend? Any fun 4th of July plans?
