Friday Favorites – December Edition

Cleaning up a local park with fellow November Project peeps.  Who knew that digging and mulching would be so exhausting?

As I was cleaning out my room this weekend, I stumbled upon a few gems.  First up, a Fabletics coupon from the Blend Retreat back in May.  Fabletics is an online subscription program that sells women’s athletic gear and accessories.  The outfits mimic Lululemon and Athleta with lots of tank tops, comfort-fitting sports bras, and yoga pants galore.  They even have you answer a questionnaire about the types of workouts you participate in most or lifestyle habits and offer personalized outfits based on this information.  Becoming a VIP member also has its perks –> 1) personalized activewear, 2) up to 40% off complete looks, 3) 20% off all separtes, 4) free shipping on orders over $49.95, and 5) easy returns and exchanges (always a winner).

I completely forgot about this coupon card and nearly tossed it into the trash.  How many pieces of athletic gear do I really need?  No, don’t answer that please.  One thing led to another and I was signing up for a Fabletics account and just so happened to find this beauty.

IMG_7107Just helping out as a seat filler for CNN’s annual Heroes show at the Museum of Natural History.  This truly was an inspiring event.  Each year, 10 or so individuals are selected as heroes for the causes they created or support.  This year’s host (and maybe every year) was Anderson Cooper and the place was filled with oodles of other celebrities and everyday people who change the world.  Be sure to tune in on Sunday December 7th for some inspiration and as a bonus, you might spot me at one of the front tables!

Client dinners call for one epic 20-layer cake (note, even with 12 people, this could not be finished!)

While this was chocolate and peanut butter concoction was absolutely delicious, the super rich treat my have have contributed to the poor sleep I got last Thursday.  Well, it may have been that plus the cheese + salami place, wine, and other oodles of dessert but what can you do?  Let’s just say clean eating during the week doesn’t really prep you for those splurge meals and my stomach was not too impressed.

IMG_6791(I seemed to have drafted this post a few weeks back, so the view of the park is obviously a little different…I’ll check in with an update – far fewer leaves and if we are lucky, a bit of white)

Friday Favorites…I’m Going to BLEND!

You know that feeling when you get to the end of the week and it’s pure bliss?  Yeah, that moment has arrived.  🙂

photo (1)Casual round of musical chairs in Bryant Park.  Let’s just say things got real!  There was some cheating and hip checking by my fellow participants.  Not to mention we had the most wonderful spring/summer weather.  Ah if it could stay like this all year…oops, that’s California.

Getting Mail

Or sending mail 🙂 I put together a couple care packages this week and cannot wait to hear the reactions!  Do you like to send snail mail?

IMG_4619You would think I had snapped this picture at Hearst Castle in California.  Nope, this little gem was taken in Central Park right by the Boathouse.

IMG_4535Posting throwback pictures on Instagram and then having the lu’au dancer find the picture.  Must have been my excellent (overuse) of hash tags.  Oh how technology creates such a small world.

IMG_4587 Reliving last week’s Jake Owen concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom.  We stood for 4.5 hours and it was worth every moment!  I had been listening to Jake Owen on Spotify all week and couldn’t wait for some of my favorite songs – “Beachin'”, “Days of Gold”, “The One That Got Away”, and “Barefoot Blue Jean Night”.  Can I just say all of them?

It’s BLEND TIME!  In a few short hours I’ll be mixing it up with some wonderful bloggers and non-bloggers and soaking in the gorgeous Park City views.

Coffee Talks

If we were going out to grab a cup of jo, I would have oh so much to say.  Of course I would be an excellent listener as well and you would have my full attention for as long as you need to chat, vent, reason, etc.  We might be there for hours, but here with go with edition #1

Let’s chat about The Bachelorette – First, I’m impressed by how much the men analyze their surroundings and situation. Sure, we women are usually known for being the queens of “reading into cues” or just jumping to conclusions.  Boy do those men win the prize of reading into the date cards, body language, and more.

Second, it’s great to know guys get just as nervous about dates and first impressions as gals do.  Just saying, putting yourself out there can be tough!

Third, I laugh every time someone says they are looking for true love on that show.  Um, you know you are dating someone who has 25 other prospects and you have to watch them interact 1×1?  Yeah, good luck with that.

The fact they filmed in Santa Barbara got me yearning to go back and visit.  Love the biking, hiking, and walking through waves.

Let’s chat about my kitchen experiments – This weekend’s attempt to make horchata (slight fail? It might be salvaged with some cold brew coffee) and first go-around with coffee ice cubes after seeing my friend’s success on her blog Sweet & Salty.

Let’s chat about running injuriesRunning Winging a half marathon with some heel pain may not have been my brightest moment.  It’s turned into heel spur, which leaves me limping around.  Likely causes:

  • Running too often or running on hard surfaces such as concrete (Welcome to NYC)
  • Tight calf muscles (I’m terrible at remembering to stretch!)
  • Shoes with poor shock absorption (My work flats probably don’t help)

Now it’s time for the Internet’s tips on recovery –> ice, rest (ugh), stretching, and maybe a massage?

Let’s chat about the upcoming Blend Retreat – Nervous and excited seem to round up my emotions.  Nervous that my heel, which has been acting up (heel spur possibly?) will not be 100% and impair some activities.  Nervous to remember so many names (I may not have done the best of research and blog stalking…good thing there’s still a few days to go).  Excited to make some new friends! Excited to be outdoors and exploring a new area of the country.

Let’s chat about Bryant Park’s list of summertime activities – From movies in the park to dancing lessons, from yoga to musical chairs – they have it all!

What would you tell me on our coffee date?

Friday Favorites

WOOHOO we’ve reached Friday and even though it was just a four-day week, reaching the end of the week still feels mighty fine.  My work load picked up quite a bit this week and while I didn’t have a lot of room to breathe (or respond to social media…not that I would do that) 😉 I loved every minute of it.  I know we went through some haphazard thoughts yesterday but let’s go through a few more and my favorites from the week.  Some come from my Instagram project, 100 Happy Days, so if you are a follower, sorry for the repetition.

So, I’m debating about re-creating my blog.  Not the content or the name, but more the style of the blog.  Maybe self-hosting (if I care to go through the extensive process…) maybe just a new design, or maybe nothing at all.

JIMMY FALLON – Oh my goodness I watched the first episode and I was laughing so darn hard.  I know everyone has their favorite comedians and maybe yours isn’t Jimmy, but this guy’s humor and standup cracks me up.  I’m hoping to call in and pick up tickets to a show in the future.  Fingers crossed!

IMG_2978Enter free fitness class at work and leave with a free manicure gift certificate.  Not a bad lunch hour by any standards 😉  Also, no matter how much I exercise, I will ALWAYS get winded going up the stairs out of the subway.  Especially when I have half of New York charging up behind me.

IMG_2986 Having a boss that entices supplies us with sugar for that 3:30 or 4:30 or anytime feeling 🙂 Some days you just need that dark chocolate and how about that discounted Valentine’s day candy?  Or the fact that Easter candy is already hitting the shelves. Oh boy.

IMG_2988My new running headband (yes, wonderful photo, I know…I try), which I won from Sweet Miles.  I’m always looking for something to hold my bangs away from my face and this adorable design is just an added bonus!  I guess I can put it to use this weekend when I’m working on my half marathon training in the heat wave.  That’s right folks, New York is getting 50F forecasts.  That deserves another WOOHOO!

And last but not least…

BOOKING TICKETS TO BLEND RETREAT! Can you tell I’m excited?  Ah, so many wonderful things to come in the year ahead.  Also I think there are still spots available so if you are interested in checking out Park City for a weekend of fun and some pretty nifty bloggers and non-bloggers, check it out!  You don’t have to have a blog to attend, so what are you waiting for?
