December Christmas Countdown

LESS THAN ONE WEEK AWAY!  I will be ever so sad when the holidays are over and the lights are taken down around the city.  How will we get through the dreaded winter months?  I don’t care what you say but the span of January – March is probably one of the least enjoyed times of the year (maybe that’s just me).

I wouldn’t exactly count today as a day of work. This is simply due to the fact that I will be so hyped up on energy and excitement to fly home, we are having an ugly Christmas sweater party/lunch at work, I am going on a client event to get our nails done and oh, I’m FLYING HOME!  So let’s keep this short and sweet, shall we?

free stuff

Because who could turn away from the word “free”?  I’m truly a pack rat at heart.

IMG_7580Flashback to last Sunday’s NP (November Project) Carols event.  We synchronized our watches to meet up at 3:25pm outside the chaos of Rockefeller Center and then zig-zagged our way through town.  We stopped at Times Square, Bryant Park, Herald Square, Madison Square Park, Union Square, and ended up at Washington Square Park.

Some people loved and took tons of pictures (yes, tourists taking selfies and straight up rolls of photos of us – strange to think we will be etched in someone’s digital memory forever)   But, there were others who edged more on the Scrooge side.  There was even an older man who was quite a grouch and simply yelled “not moving, get out of my way, not moving”. Granted, we were a bit overwhelming as we ran full-force through the streets, but come on, we were screaming Christmas carols. Got to love the city.

IMG_7581Of course, the point of our group is free fitness.  We broke up the run with some carols (even a unique edition of “The 12 Days of Christmas”), burpees, planks, and pushups.

IMG_8775Dynamic Duo, ready to be reunited.  Sarcasm, baking, and exercising here we come.

IMG_8907And looking forward to this guy!  Can you believe he is already 10 years old?? Say it ain’t so.  I miss the Moto so darn much and have to remember to take him on a few walks when I’m home.  Now that he is the solo child in the house, he takes on the spoiled role quite well.  He’s adapted to a double (or even triple) dip and starts the worry brow if this routine is not met on the daily.

Here are some of the other wonderful things I’m looking forward to in the next week:

– wrapping gift upon gift upon gift

– golfing with the family

– baking for our family open house

– hiking the trails in our backyard

– spinning with Meghan

– watching some college football

– drinking all the eggnog possible (recently discovered and currently obsessed with the calorie bomb)  So maybe burning up enough calories from spin class to afford a few glasses on Christmas Eve …

– attending a Los Angeles November Project workout

Well folks, that’s it for a Friday favorites edition.  What are you looking forward to about the holidays?

December Life of Late

I’m sure you have heard that New York is simply amazing during this time of year.  Well, that’s no lie and we are in FULL BLOWN holiday cheer.  We even received the first official beautiful snow (at least by books) on Wednesday.  It was a bit gnarly during the day but since I was inside the office, it looked just like a snowglobe.

IMG_7399The Plaza would of course go above and beyond.  I would expect nothing less of the 5th avenue historical spot.  That along with all the ritzy-glitzy stores like Tiffany’s and Henri Bendel and more.

IMG_7404A new fashion accessory purchased to hopefully improve my foot injury.  Curse you plantar faciitis and curse getting older.  Alas, the oh so attractive boot does seem to be helping.  First day running (super slow and steady) was back at Wednesday’s November Project and I didn’t have too many problems!

Because ice cream at any point of the year is necessary.  Now it’s just essential to stay with the season.  I may have picked up Haagen-Dazs’ rendition of Peppermint Bark Ice Cream and definitely give it two thumbs up.

IMG_7421When I’m (my lovely foot) still not 100%, there’s the injury deck.  There we make up our own quirky workout or implement one of the many fun Deck of Card Workouts going around.  Curious what it’s about?  Download the app (Let’s WOD) and make up your own exercise for each card suite.  Let the fun begin 🙂

IMG_7456 The simply instagram photo I post at a Food 52 Holiday Pop Up Shop, which results in the highest number of “likes” I’ve ever received and a number of random followers.  Go figure.

IMG_7471 Walks through Central Park may not be the same as running through CP, but they are just as refreshing and who can turn down a view like this?  Fun side note – this was taken as Lindsay and I walked 50+ blocks while carrying our new rug from Home Goods.  $14 delivery fee?  Psh yeah right.

Best part of the work day.  Of course I have two days off this week (WINNING!) so I didn’t get to open those days but more fun on Monday.

IMG_7494 A cookie party for the ages.  We are quite fortunate to have such amazing friends and have the opportunity to celebrate an evening like this.  Everyone make one (or two) of their favorites and we brought them to snack and swap.  I went with the peppermint pinwheels (featured ^^ alongside Lindsay’s Eggnog Cheesecake Bars) and Christmas Crack.  Oh that last one is a bit addicting (hence the name but I swear it’s all safe) 🙂 Recipe rendition to come soon.

IMG_7505Blurry but so much friend love.  It’s funny how a majority of us are from California or went to school in California and ended up on this crazy east coast.  All about the experiences my friends – carpe diem.

End of May Friday Favorites

Another week (or month I should say) has come and gone.  While work itself has slowed down, my schedule has not.  From gym classes to jet-setting about the Jersey Shore, I’ve had barely enough time to craft the perfect posts.  Ok, let’s be real, I just haven’t been very dedicated to writing.

However, since this weekend is going to be blissfully quiet (or so I hope), I might get my writing act together.  Sure I love bouncing about from place to place but with the amount of things I have on my “to-do” list that I just need to chill.  On the positive side, my roommate will be in town and we have some plans to go out one night and cook our feelings (or just work with Pinterest inspiration) away the next 🙂

~ Laundry
~ Grocery Shopping
~ Running
~ Food preparation
~ Cross Training
~ Jake Owen concert
~ Spring (almost summer) cleaning
~ Packing
~ Birthday gift shopping/shipping

Aren’t I an exciting individual? I know, I try.

Volunteering for the AIDS walk a few weeks back.  Glad I got to experience such a phenomenon and support such a good cause. Not to mention how much I love my coworkers.  Sarah was talking about community the other day and I am blessed with the community I have established at work.  Without them, I don’t know if I would have lasted this long in the city.

image(4)There’s a few other fun things coming your way.  First off, it will be my 2-year blog anniversary this Sunday!  Who knew that my little project could turn into such a fun lifestyle?  Hey, it’s even been a grand way to make friends!

Secondly, I’m oh oh so happy to help host this month’s edition of the Secret Blogger Club found on the Blonder Side of Life.  Oh the joys of being a smaller blogger 🙂 Interested in checking out what it’s about?  Come back around Monday!

Blend Retreat is in just 1 week! This gal will be meeting and greeting with some new blog friends and hopefully picking up some swag.  😉

TGIF – NYC Weekend Plans

I swear, I’m getting my act together for some fun posts.  For now, real life has zapped my brain power and creativity so thank goodness it’s Friday.  🙂  IMG_3929For now, I’m beyond excited for spring weather, the warmth of the sun, the opportunity to eat outside during the work day, and even spend extra hours in Central Park, my nature escape.  I’ve added to my NYC bucket list and can say that every week I’ve been able to check a few things off.

I’m getting more inspired each day to run another half and hopefully a full marathon sometime in the future.  As I’ve mentioned before, working out makes me feel confident and as strange as it seems, a purpose or schedule.

After watching the Boston Marathon at work, reading my friend’s recap from the Nike Marathon a few years ago (which qualified her for Boston this year), and finding yet another inspiration online, I’m ready to get down to business. Maybe it’s the dream or the inspiration I need to focus my life.  I know it’s a long journey to finish these races, but it’s something I’ve always wanted to do and thrive off of the lifestyle and runner’s high. So in the words of Nike, I’m going to Just Do It.

Some of the weekend plans (thus far) include:

* Shopping for a fun cocktail dress and shoes

* Comedy Show

* Running around Manhattan or agreeing to run a track workout (I never thought I would do that to myself again after high school but if I want a PR, it’s got to happen)

Katz Deli

* Roaming NYC’s hotspot coffee shops (since I obviously can’t pull myself away from caffeine…#javajunky)

What is on tap for your weekend?

Happiness Is…

Happiness is … reaching the end of the week.

Happiness is … Going through pictures and reminiscing the good and oh-more-interesting times.  It’s been a long while since I went through my study abroad photos, so there may be some Barcelona love coming at you soon.   IMG_4042We three traveling amigos in front of the London Eye. IMG_3902Been almost four months since I’ve seen these guys.  Looking forward to the next summer family adventure.

As we enter the last weekend of March Madness, I wanted to share this little gem. Kenny “The Jet” Smith who played for the NBA and is now an announcer on TNT came to chat to a crowdful of basketball enthusiasts at work.  Well, some might have been drawn to the free lunch but that never hurts 🙂IMG_3643

Happiness is … walking home from the gym in shorts and a sweatshirt.  No more down coats and double layered pants (fingers crossed)

Happiness is … planning future trips with friends and establishing my own adventures along the way.

Friday Highlights when Spring has Sprung

Guuuuuueesss what? IT’S OFFICIALLY SPRING FOLKS!  A great deal has been going on in my neck of the woods.  So much that I’ve been lacking on my blog reading and commenting.  Not the biggest issue in the world but I love connecting with people and even checking in on what others are up to.

IMG_3394Spring means time for BRIGHT COLORS and that means all day every day.  None of this “New York black” nonsense. No, no, no.  This California girl is bringing some bright punch to the northeast

Anyways, I’m making it through the week despite the long hours with March Madness and the fact that my accounts are in full swing.  I think it might be the thrill of the moment and the oodles of coffee my coworkers and I have been consuming.  There have been a few days where I’ve entered the office around 7:30 and a couple days where I’ve left way past 7.  I find it easier to roll out of bed, into the shower, and into the office before the crowd.  This time also allows me to accomplish screenshots, reporting, and various tasks without people bombarding my inbox.

But, since you probably aren’t here to listen to my work life, let’s move onto something more fun. How about some Friday Favorites and some exciting things about spring?

I’m a special fan of this Alex & Ani bracelet as it reminds me that I am a Taurus child, through and through – bold, brave, and strong.  Astrological signs aren’t for everyone but I find the Taurus fits my personality dead on.  Get to know me and you will agree.

Yes, I am a child of the consumerist movement.  I’ve got a job, I don’t have any kids to care for, thankfully no mortgage to worry about, so right now I’m just living in the moment.  I’m pretty thrifty about my spending – utilizing free meals at the office, finding the deals on manicures ($7? yes please!), and exploring New York by foot.

I’ve been eyeing this specific jar of nut butter for ages.  Sure, almond butter and coconut sound divine but $12.99?  Ooph, I don’t know if I could spot that (says the girl who goes out and impulse buys a purse) but this is because I pretty much consume an entire jar of nut butter in a week.  I figured with my overtime paycheck I could test out a jar and boy am I hooked.  It’s honestly DELICIOUS and I really need to pace myself.  With banana, with oatmeal, on ice cream, on a spoon.

I’m not much of a binge-TV watcher but I just discovered Sabrina the Teenage Witch on Hulu and oh yes, this will be devoured.  It was one of my favorite shows growing up and I love her sarcasm.

Speaking of binge watching – I was talking with my friends about being in our 20’s – the routine of going to work, going to the gym, watching tv, going to bed and repeating the process.  Is this fulfilling?  How do we break the monotony or what does it mean to lead a fulfilling life? That’s an entire matter (and oooo blog post possibly) in itself. But let’s keep Friday light.

IMG_3246 Getting excited for a lot more of these days 🙂 So long snow, hello sun.  There’s something about a warm breeze, the sight of people running and walking, the smell of water and the distinct sound of water hitting against the side of the dock or wall that is soothing to me.

Yeah, that thing about about being a part of the consumerist movement?  It’s a real thing and while money doesn’t always buy happiness, it buys experiences and I think I’ll have quite a lot of experiences with this bright baby.  Doesn’t that blue color just make you smile?

Anyone have any tips for sunglasses?  My last pair bonked out and I’m in the market for a new pair before the warm season really hits.
