Some Perks of Work

We may not have endless massages or gourmet food on every corner, but I like to think my job has its perks.  There’s the occasional yoga, kickboxing, and pilates class.  We happen to work right outside Central Park (who could argue with this view?).  Oh, and there are tons of lunch and learns and other activities put on through our parent company, which means learning yes, but free food = better.  With the amount of money from my paycheck that goes to my rent, I live for the free, and often gourmet, lunches.

Williams Sonoma Kitchen - Test

One of my recent favorites was a end of summer grilling tutorial at Williams-Sonoma.  I still stand by the fact that summer is not over until September 28th! So, let the grilling and fruit festivities continue in full force.

When we first arrived, we were greeted with a small cup of mint-limeade granita and a slice of festive flatbread (w/ burrata & figs)

Fig Flatbread

Next up was a tutorial on how to de-backbone a chicken and use a cooking stone.  One could use a stone or brick (cleaned and covered in foil of course) or even the backside of a cast iron skillet.

Williams Sonoma CookHere we have our head chef teaching us how to take the backbone out of the chicken.  Looks fun, right?

While we were listening and learning, we were handed plates of pre-prepared chicken and roasted vegetables to munch on.  Then, a meal would not be complete without some dessert.

Williams Sonoma FoodOn the right was a mighty fine piece of lavender pound cake, topped with berries and vanilla ice cream.  I love how she brushed the cake with some olive oil and threw it on the grew for extra crunch (and flare).

After leaving with a full belly (and ever so ready for a nap…too bad we don’t have napping cubes like Google) I was inspired to check out other cooking classes offered in the city, especially if it comes with a meal as tasty as this 🙂

June’s Birthdays and Blogger Club!

Welcome back to the week and welcome to June!!  Five months have flown by and here we are on June 2nd.  We happen to be celebrating a few things in my neck of the woods, so here we go.

First on the agenda is to wish my little sis a very happy birthday!  We’ve had some good times together (whether we like it or not 😉 jk we get along) and here’s to many more!

IMG_0851From our days rooting on the USC Trojans (even in the boonies of South Bend)

CIMG3320To gallivanting off to Mexico (even though we didn’t really speak Spanish…oh well) Quieres mango?

What’s pretty funny about these pictures is that Meghan is wearing a natural smile.  Now if I were to post half of the pictures that she is caught in these days, there’s bound to be some funny faces, tongue out, just plain ‘ol goofy Meghan.  My dad doesn’t always like this but she’s a hoot and somehow gets away with it.

Onto the next topic of the day – SECRET BLOGGER CLUB!  Except the fact that it’s not uber secret and really any blogger can join.  My friend/blend over at The Blonder Side of Life came up with this fun link up last month and I was pleased as punch to help host this month’s edition.  Forgive me if the link up isn’t 100% working…I really do need to put more time aside to understanding the ins and outs of my blog.  I might even brush up on some coding skills with the help of my friend Laura, who is a beast at coding.

The purpose: to discover new blogs, make new friends, and support the smaller bloggers of blogland 🙂

InspirationFeeling shunned from the “bigger” bloggers

The rules: There are no rules!! (j/k mostly)

-Make sure to follow your Hosts on social media Blonder Side and California Endless Summer

-Display the badge in your post or link back (mandatory)

-Link-up, click around, and be friendly 😀

Lastly is the fact that my baby blog turned a whopping 2 years old yesterday!  Some ice cream was consumed to celebrate the occasion and here’s to many more memories.
So with that folks, I leave you to your Monday.

CIMG3335Oldie but goodie.  You cannot escape me Megnan, even my Twitter feed of text messages 😉

Catching Up and Checking In

I have to admit, I admired Living In Yellow’s post about “Taking Stock” so much, I decided to replicate it here.  Imitation is the best form of flattery, right?  Or something like that.  In the end, all the love gets shared around 🙂  There hasn’t been much on the blog lately, so this should definitely make up for it.

  • Making: Lists upon lists of blog posts I want to write and places to travel to on the east coast.  It’s endless and it’s all about deciding where I can go solo and where I need to find some travel buddies.
  • Cooking: Gosh I wish.  I have so many pins on Pinterest and ideas in my head of what to make.  It just takes me getting home before 8:30 and wanting to cook for more than just myself.  I did bake “Healthy” banana bread by Lululemon.  Not sure it is family or coworker approved (it’s quite lacking in the sweet) but would pass the I Quit Sugar test probably.  Well, it’s one step in the right direction.
  • Drinking: Water for days.  That and chamomile tea since I seem to have an insomnia problem.

  • Reading: Just finished “The Language of Flowers” on my kindle (all in the span of 1 day…traveling back to NYC) and boy does it make you think about the meaning of flowers differently.
  • Wanting: To travel up and down the east coast and survive the humidity.  Oh and for someone to sell me their Brooklyn Half race bib for next-next weekend.  Please, pretty please 🙂
  • Looking: At far too many emails and excel documents during the day. Don’t-cha wish you were just starting out in the sales industry 😉
  • Playing: How many steps can I walk in a day (aka using my Fitbit)  I would LOVE to play Bananagrams, but that takes more than one person.

  • Wasting: Time?  Who doesn’t these days on social media.  Interesting clip here about being in the moment, but I guess you could also say money on my daily coffee habit.
  • Wishing:  I could click my heels and be home for a hike or trip to the beach with my girlfriends this weekend.

  • Enjoying: Mozzarella sticks, blue cheese, and wings.  Because happy hours just aren’t the same without them and live’s about indulging every once in awhile.  Although, I’ve really got to stay away from the chocolate cookies and coffee.  Those two are the culprits for my headaches and poor sleep.
  • Waiting: to know what I want to do with my life.  Do I need a 5 year plan?

IMG_4200

  • Liking: spring flowers and spring weather (except the fact that Mother Nature can’t decide between rain and sun)
  • Wondering: why I think so much about Facebook and social media
  • Loving: the people I work with. Couldn’t have asked for a better environment.

IMG_2590Recycled photo just because we don’t take them that often

  • Hoping: to win tickets to Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show at some point
  • Marveling: at countless blogger’s and fashionista’s sense of style
  • Needing: Plans for the weekend and the summer.  It really helps to have things to look forward to during the work week.  How else would I get through those mundane Mondays?
  • Smelling: The new Joe Malone samples sent to me by one of my best friends.

  • Wearing: One of my favorite outfits – Nike shorts and a t-shirt.  I keep it classy.
  • Following: All the fabulous bloggers attending the 2014 Blend Retreat
  • Noticing: How many people are obsessed with their phones.  I’m guilty but really – take a look around you, on the street, in a restaurant, or on your commute.  It’s insane.
  • Knowing: That sleep is really good for your health, metabolism, athletics, and work ethic, but it still escapes me.
  • Thinking: How does one manage it all?
  • Feeling: Exhausted (written at night), even though I just worked in an office all day.  No manual labor or work out today.
  • Bookmarking: WAY too many places to visit – from restaurants to New York hotspots.  One step at a time…

  • Opening: Belated birthday cards from some friends and family.  Who says your birthday has to last one day?
  • Giggling: At all the wrong moments.  Usually it’s when I’m supposed to be serious, if someone gets hurt (I’m talking more America’s Funniest Home Videos…I’m not that mean), or even on a roller coaster.
  • Feeling: Confident in how far I’ve come this past year.  From graduation to putting more effort into my health.  From moving across country to an unknown city to finding my first full time job all on my own.  I’d say that’s pretty darn good.

Any random thoughts? What are your plans for the weekend?

Maroon 5: Out of this World Study Break

I actually happen to be writing this at 2:30 am (gasp) and I guess it would be Thursday.  I’m a little off on my days, but that’s alright.  It’s the college and life experience.

Yes, this would be me studying in the wee hours.  Somehow I am still wide awake, so no complaints. Continue reading

Stay Young My Friend

Remember all those chain emails we used to receive?  Open, read, and send to 100 people and you will have good luck for the rest of your life?  Well, I used to save some of the quirky ones, the sentimental ones, meaningful ones.  I bookmarked this one in particular my aunt had sent me a few years back.  Sure, it’s rare if I ever read the email again, but I thought I’d share this with everyone today 🙂 Continue reading
