End of May Friday Favorites

Another week (or month I should say) has come and gone.  While work itself has slowed down, my schedule has not.  From gym classes to jet-setting about the Jersey Shore, I’ve had barely enough time to craft the perfect posts.  Ok, let’s be real, I just haven’t been very dedicated to writing.

However, since this weekend is going to be blissfully quiet (or so I hope), I might get my writing act together.  Sure I love bouncing about from place to place but with the amount of things I have on my “to-do” list that I just need to chill.  On the positive side, my roommate will be in town and we have some plans to go out one night and cook our feelings (or just work with Pinterest inspiration) away the next 🙂

~ Laundry
~ Grocery Shopping
~ Running
~ Food preparation
~ Cross Training
~ Jake Owen concert
~ Spring (almost summer) cleaning
~ Packing
~ Birthday gift shopping/shipping

Aren’t I an exciting individual? I know, I try.

Volunteering for the AIDS walk a few weeks back.  Glad I got to experience such a phenomenon and support such a good cause. Not to mention how much I love my coworkers.  Sarah was talking about community the other day and I am blessed with the community I have established at work.  Without them, I don’t know if I would have lasted this long in the city.

image(4)There’s a few other fun things coming your way.  First off, it will be my 2-year blog anniversary this Sunday!  Who knew that my little project could turn into such a fun lifestyle?  Hey, it’s even been a grand way to make friends!

Secondly, I’m oh oh so happy to help host this month’s edition of the Secret Blogger Club found on the Blonder Side of Life.  Oh the joys of being a smaller blogger 🙂 Interested in checking out what it’s about?  Come back around Monday!

Blend Retreat is in just 1 week! This gal will be meeting and greeting with some new blog friends and hopefully picking up some swag.  😉

Happiness Is…

Happiness is … reaching the end of the week.

Happiness is … Going through pictures and reminiscing the good and oh-more-interesting times.  It’s been a long while since I went through my study abroad photos, so there may be some Barcelona love coming at you soon.   IMG_4042We three traveling amigos in front of the London Eye. IMG_3902Been almost four months since I’ve seen these guys.  Looking forward to the next summer family adventure.

As we enter the last weekend of March Madness, I wanted to share this little gem. Kenny “The Jet” Smith who played for the NBA and is now an announcer on TNT came to chat to a crowdful of basketball enthusiasts at work.  Well, some might have been drawn to the free lunch but that never hurts 🙂IMG_3643

Happiness is … walking home from the gym in shorts and a sweatshirt.  No more down coats and double layered pants (fingers crossed)

Happiness is … planning future trips with friends and establishing my own adventures along the way.

March Madness

The past couple weeks have been insane – arriving to work around 7:30, juggling too many tasks to count, skipping out on lunch so I could leave the office at a decent hour, etc.  But, it’s nothing to complain about because I love my job.  Or, what is really important is that I love my coworkers and bosses.

Our task is to sit in what we call the “War Room”, check that all the advertisements are functioning, and clicking through to the respective sites.  Because we are working as client service representatives, we have to make sure that all of our clients are satisfied, but this probably means that users are annoyed out of their mind.

I always knew that advertisements were important to a company but I didn’t realize how crucial it is to have people on the other end of the spectrum monitoring the delivery of them.  After 10+ hours of watching basketball and working with clients, I doubt I will ever buy a Subway sandwich (although for other reasons too) or go to Outback or Applebee’s.  I was’t , or  am not that impressed with Old Spice.  I did happen to like the Wheat Thins ads and Allstate’s Mayhem is usually pretty creative.

IMG_3561The typical set-up – computer, tablet, coffee, and oodles of junk food.  I had my fair share of chocolate covered almonds and even chocolate covered pretzels this weekend.

I happen to love sports – playing sports, watching sports, whatever it may be, I’m game. (no pun intended) I guess it’s due to my competitive nature and the fact that I grew up in a household that had ESPN or some tournament – golf, basketball, football, always on.  Wherever the habit  began, it has helped me at work since we are required to watch March Madness.

Oh, and another perk of being in sales?  Client outings.  Last Monday I had the opportunity to attend a client event at Nike Town where we customized our own Nike shoes.  That’s right – your own Nike shoes.

IMG_3472

These are just some of the shoes we could choose from in order to customize our own.  Most people went for the funky styles but I had to stick with my favorite – Nike Frees.  Once you select a shoe and a size, you are able to pick out colors, and then coordinate the design online.

This process is available to anyone online, but only in the store do you get to talk with representatives, try on different sizes, and actually see the color swatches before selecting online.  The last part is extremely helpful because some of the colors appear very differently online than they do in person.

It was a way to “wine and dine” the client (aka agency) and establish good relations with one another before we started working down the line.  I knew that being invited to an outing like this was somewhat of a reward for working hard or really just an incentive to work that much harder in the months, and years, to come.

Day in the Life

IMG_3331Yes, I’ve picked up some of the best fashion tips by living in New York City.  This is one of my very best looks when I’m trekking through the subways on my way to work.  Attractive, no?IMG_3323Breakfast the most important meal of the day and pretty much always eaten in front of my computer.  I’ve been on a yogurt kick and even keep a bag of granola in my desk to top it all off.

Work, work, work.  Meetings, excel, phone call, powerpoint, screenshots, tracking reports, phone call, AIM (throoooowback), meetings, etc.  I’d actually much rather be busy than bored.  The thrill of accomplishing your work and checking off lists.

IMG_3324

Recently there hasn’t been much time for the hour lunch in the cafeteria so I’ve stuck to grabbing a quick salad and hopping back to my desk for more work. With March Madness around the corner and Nascar races picking up, my schedule has been packed.

Lunch – Risotto, cauliflower, tempeh, carrots, and brussels sprouts – so much more fun than packing my own bland salad.  It’s the little things that get me through the day and I swear it tasted much better than it looked.  Salads and hot bars get a bad rep because they aren’t as photogenic as sandwiches.

I may have said this before but I used to make fun of the people who were so stressed they weren’t hungry or forgot to eat.  Well, I know what it feels like and realized the times I eat more are actually when I’m bored or trying to avoid a task. IMG_3325As of late I leave the office between 6:15 and 7, heading south to my gym for an hour or so and then walk home for dinner around 9.  I’ve realized that this probably isn’t the best idea seeing that I eat lunch at 12:30 and I’m starving by the time I get home.  Luckily I don’t run into anyone on the walk home because by this point I hit the “hangry” stage.  Slight exaggeration but all is good and well once I’ve eaten 🙂

Dinner – This cheeseburger was uhMAZING with grilled onions, melted cheddar and paired with carrots, tomatoes, green beans, and a hippo pretzel.  Yep, I made a pretzel in the shape of my spirit animal.

IMG_4565

Dessert – I’ve been in a hot chocolate phase, using a generic Nestle brand in my cup of skim milk.  Perfect for ending the night on my new couch.

With that my friends, I leave you with the most clear and concise WIAW post yet.

Friday Favorites

WOOHOO we’ve reached Friday and even though it was just a four-day week, reaching the end of the week still feels mighty fine.  My work load picked up quite a bit this week and while I didn’t have a lot of room to breathe (or respond to social media…not that I would do that) 😉 I loved every minute of it.  I know we went through some haphazard thoughts yesterday but let’s go through a few more and my favorites from the week.  Some come from my Instagram project, 100 Happy Days, so if you are a follower, sorry for the repetition.

So, I’m debating about re-creating my blog.  Not the content or the name, but more the style of the blog.  Maybe self-hosting (if I care to go through the extensive process…) maybe just a new design, or maybe nothing at all.

JIMMY FALLON – Oh my goodness I watched the first episode and I was laughing so darn hard.  I know everyone has their favorite comedians and maybe yours isn’t Jimmy, but this guy’s humor and standup cracks me up.  I’m hoping to call in and pick up tickets to a show in the future.  Fingers crossed!

IMG_2978Enter free fitness class at work and leave with a free manicure gift certificate.  Not a bad lunch hour by any standards 😉  Also, no matter how much I exercise, I will ALWAYS get winded going up the stairs out of the subway.  Especially when I have half of New York charging up behind me.

IMG_2986 Having a boss that entices supplies us with sugar for that 3:30 or 4:30 or anytime feeling 🙂 Some days you just need that dark chocolate and how about that discounted Valentine’s day candy?  Or the fact that Easter candy is already hitting the shelves. Oh boy.

IMG_2988My new running headband (yes, wonderful photo, I know…I try), which I won from Sweet Miles.  I’m always looking for something to hold my bangs away from my face and this adorable design is just an added bonus!  I guess I can put it to use this weekend when I’m working on my half marathon training in the heat wave.  That’s right folks, New York is getting 50F forecasts.  That deserves another WOOHOO!

And last but not least…

BOOKING TICKETS TO BLEND RETREAT! Can you tell I’m excited?  Ah, so many wonderful things to come in the year ahead.  Also I think there are still spots available so if you are interested in checking out Park City for a weekend of fun and some pretty nifty bloggers and non-bloggers, check it out!  You don’t have to have a blog to attend, so what are you waiting for?

So Long January!

A little bit of thought amidst the photo dump for this week.  Who is ready to celebrate not only the last Friday of January but Chinese New Year, Super Bowl, AND Groundhog Day?!?!?  I’m sure y’all didn’t see that last one coming.  My 8th grade teacher was pretty much obsessed with Groundhog day.  There definitely was one year in which I woke up and called Pennsylvania to see what Punxsutawney Phil’s report was before going to school.  Nerd alert right here.

I found yet another link-up, this time on Lauren Elizabeth‘s High Five for Friday.  Let’s check out what’s happening 🙂

Living out my 20’s – When else are you able to do what you want, pick up and travel, change jobs, or try something completely out of the ordinary?  Well, you can actually do a lot of that at any age, but your 20’s are special.  I stumbled upon this blog,Sometimes Always Never, and absolutely adore it!  Whitney tells it like it is and I see some of myself in her posts and adventures. I especially loved her section about 20-somethings and even being single. Really, I know I tell you every week (day?) you need to read this, but really, PLEASE take some time to browse.

Celebrating with the best coworkers and bosses I’ve had (except for my Santa Clara boss Michelle) 🙂  I’ve had my fair share of coworkers between school jobs and internships and honestly, having a group like this to work with makes a world of difference.

IMG_2616

Doesn’t living out your 20’s mean frozen yogurt for dinner?  I was out with my coworkers on Wednesday and decided to pick up some of the best frozen yogurt in New York City (self-serve that is).  I was tricked by Apple maps and the supposed 16 Handles on Park is non-existent.  So I decided to walk 30+ blocks to the 30th and 3rd location and then continue 20 blocks home. All in the name of frozen yogurt.

SNOW – Ok, winter isn’t exactly my favorite season (no matter the location – even when I was in California) but it’s pretty fun to see snow and be able to dress up in boots and scarves.  People thought I would freeze but I told them as long as I have the proper gear, I should be ok.  I still stand by that and now I finally get to put my Uggs to use.  Those babies gifted back in the days of junior high when it was a trend to wear them rolled down (note – I did NOT participate) with a jean skirt.  Because of course no one in Southern California ever needs boots like that.

Funny posts – Such as these two about about dating runners and why it’s such a brilliant idea.  The first was found on Elephant Journal and the follow up on Blonder Side of Life.  Between sexy assets (yes, I’m talking about those quads and toosh, built up from squats and running hills) to a love for food, we’ve got it all.

Just look at this drool worthy photo. No really, take another look.  You don’t like sweets?  Phooey.  Well get this – it doesn’t have nearly as much sugar as you think it might have.  Recipe on one of my favorite blog’s Imma Eat That and hopefully a Kaitlin rendition/attempt next week.
